Over the years I've gone through a Shark, Eureka, and Electrolux cordless vacuums. The Shark wasn't bad but emptying it without making a mess was a pain. It was good for getting pet hair off a carpet and great on hard floors, but not great at picking up carpet dirt. The Eureka was probably the worst. It didn't work well on floors or carpet and was really cheaply made. The Electrolux was well made but too under powered. It's also hard to push across carpet making it a mediocre hard floor vacuum. The detachable hand vac made it slightly more useful, but not enough for me to recommend it.
So to say that the Hoover Linx is the best battery powered vacuum on the market it not making a bold statement. The competition is pretty weak. Hoover doesn't have to work hard to be better. For the most part Hoover wins on all counts: it's a decent carpet vacuum, a very good hard floor vacuum, it's well made, and the battery initially holds a decent charge(about 10 minutes of run time). The hand vac is a separate unit but it's far better than the built-in hand vac in the Electrolux. If you are looking for the best battery power vacuum on the market, this is it.
What are the downsides?
Cost: for half the price of this vacuum you can get a much better corded vacuum and a good battery powered hand vac. If you are on a budget the Linx simply isn't a good value. It's not powerful enough to replace a corded vacuum, it just means you don't have to break it out as often.
Suction: while far better than any other battery vacuum it's not nearly as powerful as the cheapest corded vacuum.
Noise: it's louder than any other battery powered vacuum I've owned and louder than some corded vacuums.
Battery: After about a year the Lithium Ion battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes and replacement batteries are .
So if money isn't an issue this is the best on the market. If you are trying to watch your budget get a corded vacuum or get the Shark.

This may cost more than some others but it is light weight and very powerful - even on plush carpet with cat hair. And it is easy to clean.

Hoover got it right on this one! Out of the box it was easy to put together. I love the batteries being exchangeable. Has plenty of power and a big plus being able to turn the brush off for hard surfaces. Good looking unit too.

Generally disappointed. Floor Vacuum suction is weaker than I need. Picks up things like dirt/dust. But cannot pick up big pieces of dirt or anything heavy in a deep grout gap between ceramic floor tiles. For example it cannot pick up a penny on the floor. Also on occasion if you don't realize the canister has filled up it or the throat clogs it blows dust out the back end all over your floor (my wife refuses to use it again because of this). I made the mistake of trying to pickup fur the dog had shed - it clogged up quickly and you must use you fingers to clear the suction tube which is VERY small in diameter (like the size of a quarter) - so dont suck up anything big or fluffy. Is also louder than I expected from an electric vac. Face is narrower than a regular vac so you must make maybe 50% more passes to cover an area. It is however light and easy to move around and lift and not having a cord is great. Would be OK for light duty pickups of spills of lighter weight/smaller pieces of material - like coffee grounds.
